Singapore — Mature / constrained
Singapore
The established regional hub, and a constrained one. New capacity is allocated. It is not generally available.
Singapore is the headquarters market and often the wrong place to assume a new campus can be connected. Screen the allocation and the power path before the land. Sundaian is not a party to a project in this market.
- Power
- IMDA’s May 2024 Green Data Centre Roadmap aims to provide at least 300 MW of additional capacity in the near term, and more only through green energy. EDB’s account of that release puts the existing stock at about 1.4 GW across more than 70 data centres, with a further tranche of about 200 MW tied to green-energy use. Those figures describe a managed release. They are not an offer of capacity.
- Transmission / utility
- The Energy Market Authority regulates the system. Transmission and distribution are licensed. A project takes a place in that regime. It does not step around it.
- Generation
- The island system is planned around imported fuel, overwhelmingly gas, with a public push toward lower-carbon supply for new load. Nearby generation is not spare data-centre power.
- Fibre
- Singapore is a regional subsea and interconnection node. Diversity, the route into a building, and latency to the markets that matter still have to be designed. A landing on the island is the start of that question.
- Water / cooling
- Cooling is a design and a policy question. The roadmap ties further capacity to efficiency and cleaner energy, and water use sits inside that standard. The cooling basis is chosen before the cost plan is real.
- Land
- Land is limited. A zoned or leased plot is not a project. Sundaian publishes no parcel here.
- Planning / approvals
- Use, building and environmental standards are part of the allocation, including the efficiency bar the authorities set for new and existing facilities. Zoning is not the gate. The allocation is.
- Investment
- Singapore is an open platform for international developers, inside a licensing and capacity regime. The corporate vehicle is straightforward relative to some neighbours. The power is not.
- Government / community
- IMDA, EMA and the economic agencies are the public interfaces. Community expectations are those of a dense city: power, water, noise and land. This is a regulatory path, not a lobbying exercise.
- Delivery
- The construction market can build data centres. The constraint that moves the date is usually power, equipment and the allocation, not a missing contractor.
- Status
- Mature hub. Constrained power. Do not treat new capacity as generally available.
